Graphics Card Conflict

Hi,

I am interested in a build which involves me to make a decision between 2 very competitive GPU's: AMD HD RAdeon 7990 and the NVIDIA Geforce Gtx 780

For the AMD, I have a supporting power supply and liquid cooling. I already know that it will beat the 780 in terms of performance. Keep in mind that I am getting this card on a sale ($500-ish). Will it still annoy me, even with the new drivers? I am very enticed on the 8 game bundle

For the 780, however, is more expensive, but I can reduce some expenditure for power and cooling. Also, it is higher rated on any online store (Amazon etc.) Is it worth it?

I can't wait any longer due to the sale period, and I don't find the r9 series worth my time (at least by the benchmarks and predicted price).

My build is arguably less expensive with AMD. I'm using CyberpowerPC instead of building due to the number of sales. Also, can I have suggestions for my build? I am looking for "future-proof" performance. Here's the link:

i strongly suggest waiting for the r9 290(scheduled for oct 24) as the member said. this gpu beats even the titan & the 780. for such a price its best bang for buck. also you get b4 but chances are not ltd edition 4 free :)

Well if it's a matter of future-proofing, then I'd say the GTX 780. The reason I say this is that in future, perhaps 2 or even 4 years from now, you'll be able to snag another graphics card of the same type for a much cheaper price, usually on eBay, and put it in either SLI or CrossFire.

However, the problem is that 1.) CrossFire drivers are still extremely skittish (though a few years from now this might change) and 2.) the Radeon HD 7990 cannot be put into CrossFire. Two of them together simply run too hot, even with liquid cooling.

Check out the article for an attempt at a CrossFire HD 7990 here:

Thanks for the suggestion, but like I said in the post, I'm impatient about this "salvation" of AMD's. Sales only last so long... I'm also a little skeptical about that since it probably won't come with the game bundle the first day its's out, and the price fluctuations might make me regret getting it

From what I know, SLI beats Crossfire. Period. But I'm just getting that single card. Getting 2 of either is overkill on my budget right now (because of the sale. It's now or never for me at this point). AMD has the drivers, but I've heard people say they're mediocre on the stutter problem. Going with NVIDIA is more expensive though.

But I like where you are going. I'm new to PC's, so I probably don't have justifiable grounds, and should probably go with your suggestion anyways :)

Thanks, but what cooling would suit the 780 and still be under $2000? Can you take a look at the build and suggest something? I've only been given recommendations for the 7990. Thanks!

I like the idea, but the price can be unpredictable. Also, I don't know what cooling would suit the R9. Suggestions?

air cooling will be fine, just make sure you have intake fans pointed at the card and good exhaust.

water block cooling..see the below link

the 7990 is a excellent gpu & a beast compared to titan or 780 since you get 9 games free to but mind you amd is still working out on their cf issues which your def bound to run into since its 2 7970 gpu itched on 1 board. also the card requires a good psu & has high consumption wattage. else then that. its a perfect gpu for a gamers delight

Thanks, and some of the info you mentioned is what I've already considered (PSU and whatnot). Would you still recommend the R9 since it's coming 2 days from now?
