Okay I know for sure I want to build a mini ITX light editing system for my dad. He does a lot of motorcycle riding with his go pro and his old computer is lagging and even crashing on basic VLC editor. So i need some input on building him a computer that will run well for 6-7 years.

I am also trying to keep the build under $800.

Solution
First, decide on the CASE:

1) Small SFF chassis->

2) Small mini-ITX or micro-ATX->
http://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=392&area=en

3) Medium mini-ITX or micro-ATX->
Bitfenix Prodigy M-> http://www.bitfenix.com/global/en/products/chassis/prodigy-m#specs

*The second two are small cases which support both mini-ITX or micro-ATX. However, I see no point in mini-ITX if the case supports micro-ATX. You said mini-ITX but I thought you should see how small a micro-ATX case can get.

It's actually CHEAPER to build around micro-ATX and it can support more RAM, expansion slots, standard ATX PSU etc. I do like the Silverstone SG08 though.

There weren't many 1155 or 1150...

There weren't many 1155 or 1150 mini-ITX boards that I liked. This 1155 was one:

1) motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131840

2) CPU: i5-3570K, or cheaper non-overclockable i5-3xxx

3) DDR3 memory - 16GB (2x8GB) of 1866MHz G. Skill or similar (max out those two slots)

4) Graphics card?

5) Windows 8 64-bit (and Start8 if you want to avoid new desktop)

6) ATX power supply (depends on graphics card; also the Silverstone SFF has its own 600W PSU).

I hope this gets you started...

I'll provide a build with a bit of feedback:

1) Comment on my CASE info, specifically is the small size essential such as the SUGO 08 because it does add to the price?

2) Can you confirm the OS is Windows not Linux. Probably, just being clear?

3) I recommend a 2nd drive so that you can store a BACKUP IMAGE of the first, and if space permits a 2nd copy of the video files (auto copied with Syncbackse freeware). My question then is:

Do you have an EXISTING DRIVE that can be added as a spare drive?

4) Can you confirm the $800 or less includes the CASE, insides, and nothing else such as keyboard/mouse/monitor?
