Diablo 3 skipping

I have an MSI GE60 0NC laptop w/ the i5-3230M CPU and NVidia GeForce GT 650M (2GB GDDR5) GPU.

Recently, while I’m playing Diablo 3 and a few other online games, the game has sudden and intense skips that last for about 1 second (I think it’s frame rate skips), happening when there are a lot of effects on screen. I’ve played D3 before and didn’t have any problems, so I don’t know what is causing the skips occurring now. Other than the skips (which typically cause a death) my frame rate is fine (50+). My graphics card software is up to date, but I am thinking it may be my GPU that's the culprit.

Any ideas/suggestions on what is causing the skips (and how to fix it)?
Thanks.

It's either gpu overheating, or your d3 files got badly fragmented. I was fighting with D3 for months cause of stuttering and freezing. In the end - I've put it on a fast USB 3.0 16gb flash drive and it completely solved the problem.

Did you clean your laptop already? Maybe heat is the problem.Heat causes the gpu to clock down as well as the cpu by the way.Especially when they use their turbo function often.

Maybe there are patches for the game that solve this.

If you play via wifi you could try another channel,if you can change that.
