USB Wifi "Appears" to be dropping out...

I have a question that is similar to others I have seen on here but with a kicker... My internet appears to drop out on my new PC after a 15-20 minutes. It doesn't actually drop out though, it just stops any (and I have tried Mozilla, Nightly & IE11) web browser from downloading pages, I get a "The page is taking too long to load, please check your internet connection" message. The kicker is that if something is streaming it will continue to stream even though I can't load or refresh current pages, and if bit torrent is downloading it continues unaffected as well... it is only certain things that are affected by it. Steam for instance will not download data once the problem occurs, but Norton 360 will update OK. I am running i7-4770K, with Windows 8.1 (64bit), with norton360 firewall, and a D-Link Wireless USB (DWA-123), the problem only started occurring after the Windows 8.1 Update, and installing a new driver for the D-Link USB has had no impact... Talking to techo's seems them quoting me $150 to "repair the registry defects" which is yet to be proven as having any great impact on the way a system runs... Over to you!!

I would check and insure that your power settings are not allowing the wireless to go into an energy saving state -- set it for maximum performance to avoid that problem. Go to the advanced options through the power options control panel for whichever power choice you have set currently to check that.

The power saver mode is deselected... the Wifi doesn't actually drop out (Live streaming and torrents continue to work) it just stops web browsers and portals like Steam from being able to access the net and load pages.
