I am trying to connect an ethernet switch (D-Link Gigabit DGS-1005G) to one of the LAN ports of my ASUS RT N66R to extend wired access. When wired directly from the router to the PC, the internet connectivity works just fine. When I attempt to plug into the switch and connect to the PC through the switch, I get no internet connection. Do I need a crossover cable? Not sure why the router and switch are not talking.

The gig-E spec calls for auto mdi-x therefore no crossover cable is required. I noticed that switch is a green switch. I've seen some of these types of switches not apply enough power for the length of cable being used. As a test, use shorter cables between the router and switch, and between the pc and switch. Just shortening the length on one of them may fix it. If it works with shorter cables, you may need to return the switch.
