I inherited about a 5 year old PC from my family and my mom which knew more about computers installed 2gn of ram and a GTX (its somewhere between 640 and 720) graphics card. Its suppose to be able to run arma2 at max settings and stuff but it can barely run google unlike my laptop that can run half life and every other game while the PC cant even launch it.

I thought it was the CPU but I dont know, its the basic CPU that came with the PC. And also when i go to computer properties to see what my PC has it hasnt updated my RAM or the graphics card.

Heres some info I got from that screen
Manufactuer: Hewlett Packard Company
Model: CQ5302F
Rating 3.6 (my laptop is a 4.5 o-o)
Processor: INtel(R) Celeron(R) cpu 450 @ 2.2GHz 2.19 GHz (not the one I bought)
Installed memory ( RAM) 2.00 (should be 4gb)
System type : 64bit

Are you sure that what was claimed to be installed was actually installed?

As it stands right now, your PC has a single core celeron CPU (forget about gaming on this).

As for the video card, there is no GTX 720, there is a GT720M for laptops, there is also no GTX 640, there is a GT 640 which isn't even an entry level gaming card.

For gaming, you need a bare minimum of at least a dual core cpu (like a Sandy or Ivy bridge Pentium, or a Phenom II X2 from AMD).

For a video card, you also need at the very least a GTX 650 (Nvidia) or an HD7770 (AMD). You also need 4GB of RAM.

Thats the card I am sure. And we reinstalled the card and ram twice after we saw that it didnt update. And are you saying I should get a better CPU. The CPU usuage is almos 60% just on the desktop with it

I agree if your computer don't see the upgrades then did you really get any upgrades... also a real upgrade in a computer is needed to game now adays... other wise if you can't afford a 700-1300$ computer then I would stick to consoles.

Core I3 wont work in your motherboard.... your looking at spending like 300$+ for CPU, Motherboard, DDR3 RAM. then who knows if your Power supply will power the new stuff if its to low...
--------------------------------------------------
Your motherboard supports follows as below.

Socket type: 775
Motherboard supports the following processor upgrades:
Intel Core 2 Quad (Yorkfield) series
Core 2 Duo E8xxx (Wolfdale) series
Core 2 Duo E7xxx (Wolfdale) series
Intel Pentium E5xxx with Dual Core Technology (Wolfdale) series
Celeron Dual Core E1xx0 (Conroe) series
Celeron 4xx (Conroe) series

with the motherboard you got a Core 2 Quad is the MAX... you can get.... other wise you have to upgrade to a new system... and you wont be able to use your HP case because of proprietary front panel hooks up in most Name Brand Computers. You would need a new CPU, Motherboard, PSU, GPU, Case, and maybe use the DDR3 memory you have already in the new build...
