I have a powercolor hd 7950, and an msi b85 mobo. I have two monitors, an acer connected via the dvi port on the gpu, and a philips lcd tv connected via the hdmi on the gpu. I can't seem to get the second monitor to work, when i have the philips connected, the catalyst control center fails to detect that it is present. When i click 'detect' it only sees my one monitor. When i connect via the mobo port, same thing happens. (Windows' display settings does the same thing, i hit 'detect' and it only sees this one monitor) I don't know what to do, as i have the most recent amd display drivers! Any ideas?

Try to disable the mobo B85 DVI output
Conect the two monitors one by one firs to test them
Then connect both
It should not be so damn hard ..... or you have other problem

Inspect you 220 powering
- you MUST connect all ( PC , Mon 1 , TV ) to ONE and the SAME power sorce
- disconect all other inputs to the TV - leave just the PC HDMI

the pc is the only input to the tv. I have tried booting the pc with only the tv connected and nothing ever appears on it.

Try to disable the mobo B85 DVI output
- did you try this ?
or
Connect the TV to that DVI port - the one that you use you Monitor
- if it`s NOT working than you have some Cable ot TV input problem
