Windows 8 64-bit Memory always halved

I built a gaming rig about 4 months ago and I originally installed 8gb of RAM. I unfortunately didn't check to see if all of it was working correctly and I just found the other day that half was being reserved for Hardware. I ordered another 8 gigs (same exact ones) through newegg and they got here today, but I noticed something odd. No matter what combination I used (new/old, 8, 12, 16gb), the memory was always halved. The BIOS sees all 16gb and so does every program I've thrown at it. I'm wondering if there is any setting I may have missed with the bios or windows itself. (Yes, max memory cap is unchecked)

Memory: (2x) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
MB: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Thanks in advance for any help.

Yes, my OS detects all 16gb of RAM both in task manager and in control panel.

Might want to check the CPU socket for bent pins, sounds like that may be it, or possibly a bad trace in the mobo or the CPU itself (the MC area of it)

I'll try checking out the cpu, but I'm not sure if that is going to be my problem. I just noticed that I accidentally omitted that the 'missing' memory is simply all hardware reserved. (See attached) I know that hardware needs some of it, but not to this extent.

Not hardly, what you are showing is symtomatic of a bad MC or bent pins, the rig can see it, bat can't do anything with it

I tried using a couple different methods to straighten the pin, but unfortunately it ended up snapping off. I'll have to just live for 8gb of available memory until I'm able to drop money on a new cpu.

If that ever comes up again (hopefully it won', but I run into it often), use a couple of razor blades, 1 to either side and gently squeeze together, then do same from a 90 degree angle
