Hot for an I7 4770k?

Hi all,
I have recently fitted an I7 4770k into my computer upgrading the motherboard at the same time. The I7 hits about 30-35C idol which is ok I suppose. However when doing a stress test it reached 90ish C after 5 minutes! Which I consider VERY hot! Especially when no OC involved! The turbo pushed it up to 3.9GHz while on 100%.

Any reason why its getting so hot?! My PC is kitted out with about 4 case fans. I am running the stock CPU fan so that may be the problem?
I was planning on overclocking but not with these temperatures! Any suggestions?

If you are running the stock fan, I would not recommend overclocking. Why Intel insists on that fan/heatsink combo on a processor basically meant for overclocking, I don't know.

The stock fan is good for average use on a computer. As you can see, it doesn't cut it under heavy load. Stress testing is actually higher than what most people will normally do on their computers, but since you plan on overclocking, you will be doing some stress testing (I hope?) to verify your overclock.

Thanks for the reply! I guess the best option is to purchase a more effective fan built for heavy CPU usage! :p

Idle temps seem normal, as others have said, investing in an aftermarket CPU cooler (CM Hyper 212 EVO/Noctua NH-D14 (Is my personal choice)) would help you greatly. But load tests temps generally aren't what your PC will ever reach during normal load when playing games and whatnot.

While it's true that your computer will not reach load test temps under normal conditions, it is nice to know that your computer will be able to handle the heat.

He's right I did the same thing when I pushed my i7k haswell with stock fan. I hate that thing Im about to buy a new one because its so cheap looking and I feel like its going to break at any moment.
