GPU or Motherboard Problem?

Today, while playing Total War: Rome II, I suddenly experienced a massive drop in frame rate, to an unplayable level. I exited the game and opened both CPU-Z and CCC. CPU-Z says under the graphics tab that my PC is running off of the integrated graphics of my processor, a Core i7 4770k, and CCC tells me "There are currently no settings that can be configured using Catalyst Control Center," as if it is not seeing my Visiontek Radeon HD 7950. I tried restarting multiple times, did not help. I also tried re-seating the GPU in both of my two PCI-E slots, did not change anything. What I find odd is that the fan of the GPU is still working, and not only that, but the HDMI port on it is still outputting to the display, however, the GPU itself is not being used to load the graphics, but instead the Intel integrated graphics are. The card was overclocked to 1GHz using CCC, so I was thinking maybe Total War: Rome II stressed it beyond its tolerance and caused it to fail, and working under this assumption, I have already filed an RMA request with Visiontek, since the card has a lifetime warranty. I just wanted to know if this sounds more like a motherboard problem or a graphics card problem.

System Specs:
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z87-D3HP
CPU: Intel Core i7 4770k, 4.2GHz
GPU: Visiontek Radeon HD 7950, 1GHz
PSU: Corsair CX750M
RAM: 16GB Crucial Ballistix Sport

One more bit of possibly pertinent information, I was running it in the slower PCI-E slot on my motherboard, because I didn't notice a difference and it made it more organized considering the location of my two PCI-E x1 slots, one of which was needed for my sound card. Also, I have been having what I believe are SATA controller issues with my motheroboard, where it will randomly loose both of my backup hard drives, just not my boot solid state drive or my optical drive. It was not enough of a nuisance to make me file an RMA with Gigabyte, but this motherboard does have problems, no doubt. Thank you for any help you can provide,

--Michael

This happened to me too. Try taking the card out and putting it back in. That's what I did and it worked for me

That did not change anything, I had already tried it. However, now, after going into my BIOS and disabling the Intel integrated graphics, my computer is using the dedicated card. CCC still does not recognize it, but both CPU-Z and GPU-Z do, and when I run Furmark I am getting frame rates which would be impossible with the integrated graphics.

I'm going to, when I get a chance. However now I am inclined to think that it is the motherboard which is acting up. Which, considering the problems I have already had with this motherboard, would not surprise me.
