Jumping and uncontrolable Cursor while using touchpad on toshiba Salellite L505

I have a TOSHIBA satellite L505 and I cannot double tap the touchpad, it makes the cursor either the pointer or the line cursor jump to another location on the page. Many times it selects the wrong item and when I try to highlight something to copy or cut, it jumps around with that too, and I select the wrong item. Also, when I try to put the line cursor between letters, it will not let me, the selector line jumps all over the place or will not let the line that flashes in between letters on a page move to the location I want. The only thing I can do while doing this is to put the cursor in the area and then use the left click to put it in place. I cannot use the double tap any longer. What can I do to fix this?
