Well, I was looking at a build that was around $900, but then I noticed I could save around $400 on an Alienware with the trade-in system along with another 200$ coupon I have. Now I am not sure if I should go for the Alienware x51 which is 1,099 without the discounts (with discounts $900) or my build I was planning to get for 900$. The specs for the build I was going to buy is as follows:

CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor ($117.97 @ SuperBiiz)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($29.99 @ Microcenter)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-970A-D3P ATX AM3+/AM3 Motherboard ($69.99 @ NCIX US)
Memory: G.Skill Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory ($72.90 @ Newegg)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($63.26 @ Amazon)
Video Card: Asus Radeon R9 280X 3GB Video Card ($316.13 @ Newegg)
Case: NZXT Source 210 (White) ATX Mid Tower Case ($35.97 @ Amazon)
Power Supply: SeaSonic S12II 620W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply ($71.30 @ Newegg)
Optical Drive: Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer ($14.99 @ Newegg)
Monitor: HP LV2311 60Hz 23.0" Monitor ($114.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $907.49

Keep in mind I know Alienware is not as good as a custom build but this is my first time building a PC, and I sort of want a warranty but I'm not sure.

Thanks ahead! -John

Yeah I thought going with my build would be the best but just one question, why would I upgrade the case? Does it make that much of a difference?

The 300R is higher quality and has better cable management and airflow. This means that your gpu and cpu will be getting more cool air, and in effect be cooler.
Also, it's higher quality so it'll last longer.

XFX psus are extremely high quality, and cheaper than a lot of high quality brands, so there's no harm in going with XFX over Seasonic to upgrade the case.
