As the title asks.

Should I get the Radeon HD 7970 or the R9 280X?

Please give reasons as to why one is better than the other! It's been a debate for me for a while now.

More about : 7970 280x

they're the same card with a different name. the r9-290x is a slightly overclocked version of the 7970... i'd get the cheapest one with the cooler you like.

otherwise there is zero practical difference.

Which one is cheaper if the have similar core clock? Do you want the games with the HD7970? Are those the questions?
R9 280X is not a new card it is a HD7970GHz version (1GHz clock speed) and boost with a new name and tweaks.

I guess what I'm asking more specifically is which one am I better off with. I don't care much for the games. I'm preparing for BF4. I've looked on other websites at specs for the two cards and the 7970 has 950 mhz speed and the R9 850 mhz, I could be wrong so please correct me.. If they were both clocked would the R9 outperform the 7970? I have a budget of about $325.

they're the same basic card, the 7970/280x both are nice overclockers, i'd get the one you like the look of the most inside your budget. there is no other practical difference.

Performance difference between them is little, an overclocked HD7970 with 1 GHz clock will perform the same as std GHz edition which is equal to the std no OC 280X http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/MSI/R9_280X_Gaming/2... even std clocked 7970 is less than 10% away form the std card which in battlefield is going to be max 3-4fps difference.

Go with the AMD Radeon R9 280X http://amzn.to/19PQa74 which is the equivalent to the HD 7970 GHz Edition and at the price of the regular 7970.

So here are the two I'm looking at:

Here's the 280X: http://www.amazon.com/Sapphire-VAPOR-X-PCI-Express-Grap...

and here's the 7970:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

not worried about the price or games. Going off what Ingtar said, I like the look of the 280. From what you said in your last post Rolli it sounds like the 280 OC will give the 3 or 4 fps than the standard 7970? And by what Mogg said not only is the the 280 I listed is cheaper, it should out do the 7970 I have listed.

And this one as well: http://www.amazon.com/Sapphire-Version-PCI-Express-Grap...

Between those I would get the second 280X.
