Today I was starting a nice round of online FPS gaming with my friend, and all of a sudden my computer starts acting as if it blue screened, although one did not show up. I restarted my computer and I noticed something was odd, there's now green lines and dots all over my screen. I tried trouble-shooting it myself, double check the cord is all the way in, making sure the card is secured in the motherboard, etc. Everything seemed fine, but there's five columns of vertical green lines about 2 inches apart of my screen. Also, the screen resolution is messed up, the display has shrunk by about an inch. I've tried reinstalling monitor, and video card drivers, but both times I just get a cannot install error. I'm using: Windows 7 64-bit, and a NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX, the monitor is a LG FLATRON E2260. Any help with this will be much appreciated. Thanks! -Harrison

P.S. I tried taking a screen shot, and on my computer the lines showed up, but when I transferred the picture (because the internet adapter had stopped working on mine) the lines no longer were visible.http://

Sounds like characteristic video RAM failure.
In general its not possible to fix. Some people have had luck by BAKING the GPU but I don't recommend it personally.

The 9800 is pretty old, maybe its time to replace?

*sigh* Maybe you're right, I'll head down to Fry's this weekend hopefully, and see what's what.

There are some great deals now on HD7000 series cards from AMD. Even the 7850 is a great card and can be had for cheap!

before you go down and buy a gpu check that the fan on the gpu is working and nothing is dust bound. also check the gpu slot of your mb and the chipset of the mb and the power supply. some older chipset and pre built system were picky on the gpu chipsets and size of the gpu card video ram. also if you have a small wattage power supply you may have to replace it.
