re4 ps2 lag

my resident evil 4 always lag when it reaches chap4 part 1 (sewage). i even bought a new CD for my ps2 and everytime i load my saved data. how to fix it?

I guess that's just how the game is supposed to run on the PS2 since at the time even, it was some old hardware. Don't get me wrong, the PS2 is a legendary machine, but laggy gameplay on consoles, especially from that generation are due to the limitations of the hardware and you cannot really do anything to fix it.
