So I recently "upgraded" from 8 to 8.1 and it made many of video games stop working. So my question is how to I revert back to Windows 8? I know I will have to reinstall Windows, and I still have my installation disc and product key, but I don't know what to do after that. What files do I need to put on an external hard drive? Only personal files? I'm just lost when it comes to reverting. Any help appreciated.

Connect your External Drive
At your Start Screen type 'Backup' and from Settings choose 'Save backups of your Files with File History' (Note the link under that for restoring!)
Once the Window is open, you should see your External Drive listed. Proceed with Backup.
Once complete, remove External drive, shut down and use Setup to change boot order of your PC to CD/DVD 1st, boot from your Install disk. At the 'Where do you want to Install Windows' Screen use 'Drive Options (Advanced)' to delete all partitions until all you can see is Unallocated Space. Install Widows to that space and all Partitions /formatting will be done automatically. Download and install Drivers from Motherboard Manufacturers' website

Just as an aside, I'd be curious as to what the Re-install option in Windows 8 would do post 8.1 upgrade. Why not try it and see what happens once you've backed up?
Just type 'Reinstall' at your Start Screen and choose 'Reinstall' etc. from Settings. Report back your findings...

before you reinstall, update your graphics driver and see if that fixes your games.
also, you can run the games in windows 7 compatibility mode if that doesn't work.
let me know if you need more help then that.
