Hi there

I am not 100% sure but may have bought the wrong size of memory for my new system build. It has been 8 years since I have built a new system so a bit rusty. Here is the motherboard I purchased ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 AM3+. I purchased 2 GEIL 8gb modules. The motherboard supports a total of 32GB. I was sort of confused by looking over the QVL in the manual and did not see my configuration. Anyhow mainly confused if I need to buy 2 more 8gb to fill all the slots or return and buy (4) 4gb modules. Or will 2 8gbs work okay?

Thank you for any help:)

Its good. 32 GB max means, well, that's the MAX ram it will support. So ..you can slap a whopping 1GB stick in it all the way up to 4x8GB sticks in it (but mind you to use all 32 GB of memory you would need the Windows 7 / 8 PRO versions. As normal versions use 16 GB.

Thank you for the quick replies. Would the system run more efficiently with 2 more 8gb modules or will l this add additional heat that I will need to get vented? The case I bought has 2 140 mm fans and a 120mm fan.

Also a couple other questions:

1: I assume people overclock their systems to game? And if I step this up one notch what are the negative effects ?

2: Also I noticed my AMD chipped says unlocked? What are the differences between locked and unlocked?
