hi,

I have i5 3570k (4200 OC), 2x4Gb RAM and a 7950.
I was wandering if i could use the r9 290x at the fullest of it's capabilities without any bottleneck.
PSU is a 620 seasonic.

Thanks and regards
C

No, but I think that PSU is going to choke as the 290X loves its juice, especially since your CPU is OC'd.

any advices on what i should do in order to add a r9 290x to the system, to ensure a perfect functionality ?
i5 3570K (OC to 4200), 2x4 RAM, 2 hard drives and a SSD, motherboard: ASROCK z77 pro 4.
Since 290x will be arround 600$ in my country, i belive it will do better than 7950 CF, or 280x CF, mainly because i want to avoid CF issues.
Thanks

i have read this article http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/radeon-r9-290x-hawaii-rev... that shows power consumption of 290x in idle and gaming.
But i dont know how to interpret it

Get a 700 watt PSU at least would be the only suggestion I would say. That, AND maybe wait a few weeks for custom cooler 290X's to come out , as these reference ones apparently hit their max temps FAST and will slow themselves down (95 degrees).

Thanks a lot. I am going to wait until the end of November/start of December, but i wanted to be prepared with information that will help me use the GPU properly (so that i dont buy it and find problems just after that), it's better to be proactive :)  . Im glad there will be no other bottlenecks then.. or at least i hope there wont be.

Thanks a lot !

You are absolutely fine to add a 290X to your system. You only need a recommended 550w-600w power supply and the Seasonic 620w unit you have is more than enough. Even with overclocking.

Glad to help. :)

Your selected best answer is half correct in that it is probably a good idea to wait on cards with 3rd party cooling.
