So the r9 290x just went up for preorder on newegg for $580. But i was kinda set to get the incoming gtx 780 ti. Please keep in mind that im not gonna only use this card to play BF4. I Also play alot of rpg's. Skyrim, The Witcher 2, etc. I'm kinda in a rut, which one should i get?

the r9 290x will jsut outperform the titan in its boost mode, which it wont be able to fullfill long under heavy load. thus there is more that's negativ about that mode. its incredibly noise. an annoying sound really high. and it is really incredible hot.
thus the r9 290x will work most time in the silent mode which means -15-20% performence to a titan getting even to a 780 being a bit better.

Considering that the R9 290X is on par with Titan and sometimes better then Titan in some games. There is no discussion needed about 290X vs 780Ti, there's no way nvidia will make the 780 Ti outperform Titan.

I would wait for the non reference 290X cards first to see how much better they will dissipate heat and stay on boost.
Who know's what the 780ti will be like , but I'm looking forward to see what they do with it.
Don't rush and see what happens when the non reference cards are out and what the 780ti brings to the table.
I find the reference 290X just a bit to hot for my liking.

Your best bet is to wait. There's a lot of garbage floating around the internet now about 4K resolution, when in reality these resolutions are only being used to test X card vs. Y card. I'm a hair-spread from grabbing dual 780's but have to wait also. The VRAM on the 290X is a little bit better than the 780 (if it matters). The 780 Ti will likely have a version that has more than 3GB VRAM (We just have to wait and see).

Definitely wait for the aftermarket 290X coolers. I extremely doubt it will be anywhere near as cool as 700-series cards, but it should reduce temperatures somewhat. AMD says the cards can run at 95-Celsius all day (and they do, right out of the box), but that's too hot for some people.

Oh, and allegedly the 780 Ti will be released on the 7th of this month.
