So I bought the R9 290X as soon as it went on sale. I considered waiting until custom coolers were sold with the cards, but I'll be running on Intel HD until the actual card arrives, so, didn't particularly want to wait.

Looking at the reviews, it would seem that the 290X has something of a problem with heat and noise stock. Not only does it seem to run at 95C constantly, it seems to clock down to maintain that, rather than increasing fan speed, and while speed can be increased, this gets very noisy, and with the Fan's design, it looks like all the cooling of my case isn't going to count for much.

Ideally, the card would run at the max 1Ghz or so and not exceed 70C, without sounding like a lawnmower. I imagine the Twin Frozr and DirectCU II etc. varieties of the card will without much issue, but apparently not the stock blower I will have. While I've assembled computers for a while now, I've never actually changed out a GPU cooler. I've got plenty of room / cooling in my case, though I don't really need something massive, nor expensive nor tricked out. I'm also not in a massive hurry; I can run stock for a while.

That being said I'm looking for recommendations for Aftermarket Coolers, that are:
- Compatible with the R9 290x
- Not particularly expensive
- More Effective at cooling than stock assuming good airflow
- Not Water Cooled
Optionally, it'd also be:
- (Relatively) Easy to install
- Not Massive
- Relatively Quiet
- Available via Amazon.com (free shipping to APO)

I understand that few people have had a chance to actually test any of these things on the specific card yet, but if you have any recommendations that should probably work, feel free to post them. I'll make sure to do research to make certain before buying, anyway.

Arctic Cooling's Accelero Extreme III lists compatibility with the 290X on their website. It is available on Amazon for $75.00 (with prime). Tests with other cards including Titan prove this to be a very impressive cooling solution. Very quiet compared to the stock solution as well. Downside is it is reported to be rather large, so a good sized case will be a big plus. Other downer is it does not vent to outside the case like stock coolers so good case ventilation is a must. I have contacted AC for specific information about this system and its listed compatibility with the 290x, specifically mounting instructions for it. Hope this helps.

Splendid
You might have to wait awhile to see what after market cooling options will be available, in time you will see products come up and you will be able to compare them and read the reviews before purchasing one.
Use the card for now , and see what gets released.

Hello I bought the Sams card as you. I set my tempiture target at 85 with max fan speed at 100. I've been playing battlefield 4 and the max fan speed I've seen was like 50 mostly 40-44
