hi guyz,

I am planning to upgrade my gpu. I currently have Sapphire HD 7950 with boost. now i am thinking if i should go for 2nd 7950 or just buy the new r9 280x.

Thanks.

The R9 280X is just a little bit faster than the HD7950, its equal to an HD7970.

So getting another 7950 and that would be best.

Then again, what are the rest of your specs?

Power supply especially.

thanks for the reply. here are my specs.
Mobo: ASUS M5A99FX 2.0 Pro
CPU: AMD FX 8350
GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 with boost
RAM: Gskill Sniper 8gb 1600mhz
PSU: FSP Epslon 700 watts

If I am going to go for 2nd 7950, i would change my psu with this one:

If you decide to Xfire, you will need to get a better PSU, the one you have will not handle it.

Hell I would replace the PSU anyway, its a VERY bad unit and will likely fail at some stage or another.

Now the PSU you chose to replace it with is a little overkill. There are much cheaper options in general if you are willing to live without modular. But that PSU is VERY good.

So my suggestion :

Get another HD7950 and get a new PSU. :D

Jip, TX series 750W is perfectly good enough.
Or ANY XFX 750W is also fine, they tend to be a little cheaper but very good still

To cross fire HD 7950 you need a minimum of 800 watts to handle the power. I purchase a 1200 watts psu to upgrade to triple HD7950
