So I'm giving my old pc to my mom who generally uses computers just to watch some videos, read her email and surf the web, not play any games or anything too demanding. One piece I have to replace is the gpu, since the cpu (phenom2 x4 955)doesn't have integrated graphics. What gpu would you guys recommend for her, it doesn't matter if it's nvidia or ati/amd , just something under around 50 bucks

The GT 610. It's cheap, efficient, and will watch videos, likely even 1080p videos, without a problem:

Totally agree with the above. Something really cheap that has the right monitor cabling is all.

Buy used.

Why go to a PC shop and pay $50 for a horribly overpriced POS card that has no gaming ability as most of what you are paying for is that it takes up shelf space.

Try kijiji, ebay, or similar and find a couple generation old midrange card (if you ever want to use it as a spare gaming system) or a really cheap used entry level card someone took out of a dell/etc machine when they upgraded its GPU.

Guess not everyone cares for warranties when they buy things for mom.

She doesn't need anything too fancy as I mentioned previously. Also I don't see why would I need a spare gaming system. So I think I'll go with the gt 610. In fact I was already going for it but I wasn't quite sure if it could even run videos properly.
Thanks for your answers!
