I used AI Suite III to overclock my computer, but it always raises bus speed which is not a good thing to do as it also raises the speed sent to all the devices on the motherboard. I am trying to just raise the processor speed for turbo. I am limited to 39 as a multiplier, it will not accept anything higher. I cannot find anything that will allow this to change except manual which prevents the cpu from running slower when not in heavy use. Does anyone know how I can raise the multiplier higher than 39 without raising the bus speed while still allowing the processor to run slower when speed is not needed? Processor is core i7 haswell 4770k.

Don't use AI Suite for OC'ing. It has a bad reputation for causing problems...

Adjust your multiplier and voltages manually in the BIOS. Be sure that CPU voltage is set to "Adaptive", if you want to have the voltage scale back under idle or low power situations, unless you are running stress tests and then select "Override". Also be sure to set your Windows Power Options to "Balanced" as this has a major effect on lowering voltage and multiplier during slack periods.

I would love to do an overclock in my bios. I have watched a Newegg YouTube video of my motherboard and processor and it was quite easy to do, for him. For some reason, so far unknown to anyone I can find, including ASUS, my multiplier for turbo stops at 39. I can't even get it to accept 40. I have heard that Intel locked out that ability on the K processors of the Haswell bridge, but that is the only information I have been able to find. If you, or anyone else has ever ran into this situation and know of a fix for it, I would be grateful for the information. In reality, this processor is so fast that I really have no need, at this point, of overclocking it. I simply like to know everything I can about computers since I work on them almost daily both locally and in various countries.

Thanks Yogi. I already had all that information. I simply cannot increase my multiplier past 39 and that maximizes my turbo to 3.9 GHZ. I have no desire to raise the bus speed above 100. Ai Suite 3 has several useful tools in it that do not relate to overclocking such as allowing you to set the fan speeds for any given temperature and can shut off the case fans. I wish I could shut of my processor cooling fan as it is not needed in normal use as I have a liquid filled radiator affair for the processor and the fan turns needlessly unless I am putting it under a load.
