$700-ish budget build for playing the (old) game Asheron's Call

I'm upgrading my PC so that I can play the game Asheron's Call, perfectly, at max settings. Yes, it's an old game, no my current PC cannot play it perfectly at max settings (in fact it can't play perfectly at less than max). If the PC could be decent with more modern games, that'd be great, but my real goal is to play Asheron's Call perfectly.

As an FYI, my current PC is a 4.5 year old Dell XPS with an i7-920 Processor (8MB L3 Cache, 1MB L2 Cache, 2.66GHz), 4 GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz, 640 GB SATA II Hard Drive (7200 RPM), and 512MB ATI Radeon HD 4850. I'm not really interested in upgrading because it has been blue screening on me lately, and I'd rather just start fresh.

Approximate Purchase Date: e.g.: flexible (nothing is holding me back, but I can wait if needed)

Budget Range: Prefer to stay <= $700 (could go as high as $1000 but there would need to be a compelling reason)

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Asheron's call, other old games, standard word processing/internet stuff/watch moves, etc.

Are you buying a monitor: No

Parts to Upgrade: I already have, a mouse, keyboard, monitor, and speakers and I don't really need an optical drive. Need everything else.

Do you need to buy OS: Yes

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: no preference

Location: US

Parts Preferences: none

Overclocking: No

SLI or Crossfire: No

Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080

Any help would be very much appreciated, thank you.

  1. I put this together - see what you think. You can also swap a FX4300 in for the 6300 to cut the cost by a few dollars. You can also think about adding more money into the GPU (i.e. AMD 7850/7870) if you want to be able to play other, more demanding games. Otherwise, this should do pretty well and be fine for 1080p.
