So, I m building a new budget, OC-oriented PC. When I was pretty settled on what I wanna buy, various friends started telling me I shouldn't buy a graphics card yet, not until the new Radeon card comes out and "rocks the foundation of graphic cards' market". But is it really gonna make other cards' prices to drop (like my pick, the R9 280X)? And if so, how much? And when? Is it really worth it to wait? Keep in mind that I dont have a computer in the meanwhile coz I just moved to Switzerland.

If you're curious, this is what I'm going for (I'm open to suggestions!):

Processor: INTEL Core i5-3570K "Ivy Bridge", 4x 3.4GHz

Motherboard: ASROCK Z75 PRO3

Graphics Card: GIGABYTE GV-R928XOC-3GD, AMD Radeon R9 280X, 3.0GB GDDR5

RAM: CORSAIR Vengeance CML8GX3M2A1600C9, 9-9-9-24

HDD: MUSHKIN Chronos SSD, 240GB + my old 1TB 7200 rpm hard disk

Housing: FRACTAL DESIGN Core 3000 USB 3.0, Black

Cooling: SCYTHE Mugen 4 (SCMG-4000)

PSU: CORSAIR CX750M Modular 80 PLUS Bronze, 750 Watts

Monitor: IIYAMA ProLite E2773HS, 27'', 1980x1020

Mouse: LOGITECH G500 Laser Gaming Mouse

Keyboard: RAPTOR-GAMING LK1

DVD: whatever

Total price: 1175 euro

The new cards are not going to change the 280X price level but the upper end $500+ cards. With a single 280X you do not need 750 watt so you can go with a higher quality PSU instead of the CX750 which is their budget unit. TX650 or HX650 would be better choices from Corsair, although the rig will run on any quality 550watt + quality PSU.

Agreed with that, AMD already knew what they wanted to price the new cards, so while the HD 7xxx's may continue to drop, the new AMD's won't most likely. The uber expensive nvidia cards are what we expect to see drop price since it now makes no sense to buy one.

What usually ends up happening is that I start stacking HDDs as time goes by. But you're probably right, I wont end up needing more than 650W, thnx for the suggestion!

Just checked pricing and the CX750 is actually cheaper than the TX650, Should I still go with the TX650?

As it turns out u definitely wrong about only the upper end cards prices dropping. Nvidia seems to have reacted immediately, aggressively cutting prices of also more mainstream cards like the gtx 770 which as of oct 29th, received a $100 reduction thus becoming my card of choice. Glad I waited!
