Dear TM Community,

I plan on upgrading my current GPU, MSI Radeon 7850 OCed, to a AMD Radeon 7950/7970 when BF4 hits the market. My question is; Do I have to uninstall the current drivers for my GPU prior to installing a new GPU that is the same brand? Additionally, what if I want to switch to Nvidia? Will there be any driver conflicts?

Solution
Yes it is always best to uninstall the card and drivers in device manager before shutting down to replace the card. From 7850 you need at least go to HD7970 for noticeable performance difference.

ummm . . .if i were you i would get a GTX 760 or 770. Not because I like nVidia, just because you will get slightly better gaming performance for a lower price: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nvidia-GeForce-DirectCU-GDDR5-Graphics/dp/B00DM9B6FO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1382635897&sr=8-1&keywords=760
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/855?vs=854 - on this link you will see that the GTX 760 is better overall. On amazon the 760 is around 35£££ Cheaper than the 7950.
ABOUT THE DRIVERS:
I would recommend you uninstall all current drivers when you start to download your new GPU ones, because otherwise you might get somesort of malfunction if 2 GPU drivers are trying to run at the same time.

Hello... Windows should start if your BIO's/motherboard communicates with your new video card... and will tell you if it can find drivers for your NEW device installed... Windows has many drivers on your hardrive, that you don't use... it only installs the ones needed into memory, when it detects the hardware that needs them... it is possible to have more than one video card/brands/type, installed into Windows and your motherboard... if you find that Windows cannot find a video driver for your hardware, then it is best to remove/uninstall the Old Video card drivers before installing new ones, for a smoother transition.

Rolli59, so you are saying to uninstall the current GPU drivers (MSI AfterBurner, AMD Catalyst, etc.) before upgrading to the 7970, even though it's the same brand? If I plan to get the GTX 760 instead, I would do the same process, right? I'm just rephrasing what you just said, not trying to sound stupid on here. Also, I like Nvidia and AMD Radeon, but I'm on a budget and finding the suitable gpu that can run BF4 fairly nice.
