i have an EVGA 750 modular psu, In my build, i currently have an AMD 8320FX and a single Power Color 7970.
Do I have anough room to add another 7970, and would it better if i go with another powerColor 7970 or should i get an asus/sapphire/evga 7970?
Thanks :)

Yes, a new PSU might be in order. I recommend an 850W 80+, take a pick of anything you can find as long as it is 80+.
Yes a 280X is a better choice if it is cheaper, just any 7970/280(x) you can find. The best brands are Asus, Sapphire ( Personal Recommendation, I have one) Gigabyte, EVGA, and of course PowerColour. If the 7970 is a better price then go and get it instead of the 280(x), $50 for example is not worth the performance gain you will experience. But if you find something good on Newegg then remember to set the 280(x) as your Primary GPU because it will be slightly more powerful and will most likely perform slightly better.
In terms of Power consumtion you will be looking at roughly the same thing, maybe a couple watts better...

so do i go for the upgrade on the psu? And would a 280 or 280x be a better choice than a 7970? like for power consumption?

Keep in ming that different brands of the SAME GPU can XFire. But it might end up looking a little worse than say 2x Sapphire Dual X or 2x PowerColour.
But the best feature of getting another brand other than Powercolour is that the cooling will amost certainly be better. ESPECIALLY if you go Sapphire or Gigabyte.

thanks for the response, another thing im concerned with is the actual cooling of dual gpu's. i know that the top card is always hotter, so is there a certain type of cooler that works better for top cards? btw my 7970 maxes out a 63 degrees celcius, how much will that change with the second card?
