Hello:
I recently began my first build. My components: MB- Asus Z87 Pro, CPU- Intel i5-4670, PS- Seasonic M12II SS-620AM 620W, RAM, GPU- Gigabyte Windowforce R9 280X and fan- Hyper 212 Evo by Cool Master.
I did my initial test build outside of the case on the MB's box, prior to which I had inspected all my parts; no noticeable flaws were identified. I assembled everything in this order: MB, CPU, cooling mount and system, 2 4GB sticks of RAM and inserting the GPU. When I connected the power source to the MB, the power button would light up but nothing else occurred, no other MB lights, no fans on either the MB or GPU, nothing.
After searching around a bit, I decided to start from square one. I removed everything from the MB except the fan's mount from the back. After inspecting the CPU I could find no flaws with the pins nor any other abnormalities. I installed the CPU and the cooling system. I then plugged in the PS to the MB and did a test boot. Everything booted up fine, fan was running and the expected error # appeared for the message that there was no RAM. Shut off the power, unplugged power cables from mother board and inserted one stick of RAM and connected to monitor. Test booted from there; the fan turned on and I was able to access the BIOS. Shut down the MB, unplugged power, added second stick of RAM, successful boot up with access to the BIOS.
It was after this I concluded the issue might be with the GPU. I searched these forums and found what I believed could be a solution: I went into the BIOS, into the Advanced Settings, System Agent Configuration, Graphics Configuration and changed the Primary Display setting to PCIE. I then saved and exited, shut down the power, removed the power cables and added the GPU. I then attached the power cables to the MB and GPU, turned on the power and... nothing. The Power button's back light lit up, same as before, but nothing else turned on.
I then decided to do what initially worked and proceeded to remove everything down to the MB and fan mount. Inspected the CPU, no noticeable damage. Installed the CPU again and mounted my fan. Tested the boot up and nothing occurred again outside of the power button's back light staying on. No access to the BIOS either. Tried adding RAM one stick at a time with the same result. Tried using the flashback button and nothing happened.
Thanks for reading. Does anyone have any suggestions or been in a similar predicament?
