Hey guys new member of Tomshardware as of today, great site. So I'm looking to build a machine capable of video editing. Nothing more than 30 min videos. Not really any animations. But will be using DSLR footage primarily, high frame rates, maybe shooting RAW, slow motion etc.
Anyway I've educated myself pretty well in the "Graphics Card" department and know what I need to take advantage of Adobes "GPU acceleration."

So I'm looking into Intel processors and was wondering if the Intel Core i7-2600K will work for my needs?? I just couldn't find an answer anywhere else. I know there's a few higher tiers but I'm on a budget and why I'm interested in this one.

So to be straight forward the only kind of editing I will be doing at the moment, for the next year, Is only trimming and clipping clips together with DSLR footage. NO animations, 4k, etc.
But I do plan to upgrade gradually to utilize these features later on. So will the intel Core i7-2600K work for the time being?

Thanks

Hey Jake,

The 2600k is fine, and will be a really good overclocker, and is perfect for your needs.

However, I'd recommend you pick up atleast 16GB of RAM, since you're video editing, have you thought maybe of switching to Haswell? It's generally 25% faster than sandy bridge.

Remember, Sandy Bridge is LGA 1155, and only works with Ivy Bridge / Sandy Bridge motherboards.

Have a nice day, Dave.
