I've managed to mess this up pretty good now. I replaced the motherboard, after finding out it didn't drink coffee, on ACER Aspire 3004WLCI and loaded Windows XP. At that point I had no internet connection or recognition of any kind. Reading I deduced that the wifi board might be bad and replaced same. Same situation as before. Rechecked connections and were good. Got side tracked and forgot about it. Now the trial period on the XP has expired so I can't open anything to check anything. The Wi-Fi indicator light in front has not lit up since the mother board change. It is like it isn't getting power but that's just my guess.

When you change the motherboard on any Windows system, Windows must be re-installed from scratch.

If you don't have a factory recovery CD, or a retail copy of Windows on CD, that means you will have to shop around to buy one.
Microsoft and Microsoft resellers obviously don't sell XP any more, but you may find a legit one on Ebay or elsewhere online.
You'll just have to hope that the Product Key & Licence you get with it is genuine and hasn't been used elsewhere.

If you manage to pull that off successfully, you can download all the drivers from Acer Support.

Phillip, I meant I replaced the hard drive. The mother board was on another laptop.
I would assume the same thing though.
Windows opens but I can not get past the lets register/activate screen. Which leads to the other problem of no Internet recognition (fine in other computers). I called the active number but when all done said I had an incorrect input.
Originally the problem was just the no Internet. Took to Geek Squad who managed to kill the hard drive. I replaced it and loaded a copy I had of windows Xp
