So i turned on my computer it did it ran all the start up stuff. I then loaded WoW(world of warcraft) up and plugged my info in and my screen froze and then the whole computer just shut off. I repearted the same thing. I got the same result. So i called around and a buddy of mine lended me a video card. I put it in and installed it. Opened WoW up again and it did the same thing. So if its not my graphics card what else could it be? I built my PC 3 years ago so it is quite old.

Could you list your system specs please? In my experience, when a PC just shuts down like that during power draw (gaming), it's usually the power supply going bad :-/ but Cathal14 could be right as well if you are overheating

3 years old computer is not old. I have mine for 7 years and acts and looks like a goddam new. Nevertheless, have you checked your system temps lately?
Any recent changes on system hardware/software? or this just happened out of the blue?

yeah i checked all the temps they all seem to be about the same as they always been and i asked around about a power supply no one had one so i bought a 550 watt off newegg.com so it should be in tommorow or saturday. if that doesnt work could it be the motherboard just not pumping out the power anymore?

This is one of those problems that can have so many causes lol, it is one of those situations where we just start switching out parts, because I can almost guarantee it isn't a software issue :-/ When my PC started doing it, the power supply was the last thing I switched out. If the PSU isn't the issue, my next guess would be the motherboard, and switching the motherboard out isn't exactly a quick process :p Good luck with the replacement PSU, post back on here with the result and we will go from there :)

I'd say its definitely the psu, this happened to me not long ago when i was trying to play borderlands 2 on maximum, the pc shut down then when i started it up it worked again, but after the 3rd attemp of getting the game to play without cutting out the psu blew, now iv replaced the psu now there is no shut downs or pc turning off, so id recommend you to buy a new, and reliable psu that will last for many years to come as yours is also outdated.. which is probally the reason its breaking down

Make sure your power supply has enough to support the graphics card on the 12v rail(s). They usually have enough these days, but sometimes they have multiple rails and in a non ideal configuration it can cause a power supply to shut down. Either way you made a good choice to buy a new power supply. I am confident your problem will be fixed.

well i put in the new power supply and it loaded up WoW ran for a good hour thought everything was good then it smelled like something was burning and then my pc shut off lol so i felt the northbridge on my mother board and it was too hot to even touch so now going to replace the motherboard :(
