I was wondering if I would need to buy all of the cables required to connect everything, I am buying all my parts retail, new from Amazon.co.uk and I read somewhere that if you buy retail, you got everything you need with the parts.

99% of components come with the require cables.

The power supply will provide the power cable from the wall to your computer.

The motherboard should provide the SATA cables.

The case provides the cables to connect to the motherboard.

If I am missing anything do not worry about it. The cables come with the components unless you are doing something out of the ordinary like mounting a spaceship on top of your computer.

For the most part, the cables you need will be included with your power supply (for power needs, obviously), and with your motherboard (usually includes two to four SATA data cables). On the off chance your motherboard still has an IDE port, it will probably also include and IDE data cable.

You get everything you need when you buy the parts. The majority of the wires will come with the power supply. I recommend buying a modular power supply so you only have to use the wires that you need.
