So I'm just wondering if anyone knows what the impact of crossfiring a 290X on PCIe 2.0 v 3.0 is?

This is my current motherboard.

I don't think there would be any performance hit with pcie 2.0. You can run a 7970 in the slowest 1.1 x4 slot and not notice. Less than 2 fps(37.7 vs. 39.5) and that is @2560x1600

P67 based board is fine. What do you have i5-2500K, i7-2600K?

Version 3.0 might be useful for the next generation of GPU's (20nm, nVidia Maxwell/Radeon R9-3XX series), in tri SLI/Crossfire. Or a fast pcie SSD.
