So yesterday I found a problem with one of my outlets. I hear a sound coming from it whenever I turn on my computer. It sounds as if electricity is leaking out. I currently live in a apartment around my college and the outlets are horrendous, some of them have the plastic broken. I was wondering if this would short out my computer. I do have it connected to a surge protector and the outlet says that its protected and grounded.

Hey OP here, there's a glitch with my account " Meitou" where I cannot post reply to posts. Anyways, I switched to another socket, had to move my bed and everything and the sound is gone. Do you guys think that there would be damage to my hardware? I just build this computer two months ago and its been plugged into that socket. I read somewhere that it has to do with the socket being "daisy chained" to another socket. I just don't wnat my computer to malfunction. I had a problem with my old computer where my foot accidentally hit the power switch, and that when I turned it on the computer would not read the PCI E slot. Had to sell the graphics card which I only had for a month.

Sounds like the outlet is arcing. It may have a loose wire or aluminum wire going to it. If you are hearing odd noises coming from an outlet or switch, it may be a fire hazard and should be looked at and replaced.

Does anyone know how Corsair does their RMA's, are they going to ship me a new psu in a box and I ship them my cpu in the same box? I'm considering waiting till I get back home and then going straight to the warehouse to RMA my product.

The outlet would only make noise if something was drawing power from it. Try plugging a light into the outlet and turn it on to see if the light flickers or the outlet makes any noise.

Coil whine does not hurt performance. You would have to contact them to see what they can do for you RMA wise.
