Questions About the AMD R9 280x

I am currently in the process of gutting and rebuilding an alienware aurora R3. I have read that AMD just released the R9 280x and I am considering getting two and putting them in Crossfire. Is this a good idea or should I go with 2 Nvidia GTX 760s in SLI? Or are these both bad ideas and if you have a suggestion of a better configuration please let me know.

Well the R9 280X is a AMD 7970 GE that has a new bios and been upgraded a bit...it's similar with what Nvidia did with the gtx770 which has the same chip as the gtx680. I would go with two r9 280x or two 7970 GE. The r9 280x has more cooling solution options and more updated ones. It also has 3gb of RAM. It depends if your talking about SLIing two gtx 760 4 gb then that would be ok, but i would rather CF two r9 280x because they are cheaper and I would say faster.

If you are going to wait for the r9 290X, wait for aftermarket cooling, the reviews out say that it is fast but has heat issues due to the the stock cooling solution, which after gaming for a while will cause the gpu to clock down to protect itself.
  4. If I decided to go with the and r9 280x, who would be the best manufacturer? Ex. msi, Asus, etc?

Sapphire or Asus are my two favorites. But go for whatever is on sale. they are not that much different.
  6. Both are tough to get a hold of right now. ASUS has the same cooling solution as the ASUS gtx 780. The TOXIC by sapphire looks promising. While the TOXIC has a higher core clock (faster), it does also consume more power. I went with the ASUS r9 280x.
