i'm not sure if the problem started when I updated from win8 to 8.1 but the thing is that my volume is maxed all the time or muted, when it's on, it doesn't matter if change it from 5% to 30% or to 100%, it's always maxed and doesn't vary

[strike]Open the Windows volume mixer then increase system volume.
Atleast it worked for me[/strike] Have you maybe updated your sound card drivers? And do you have some kind of volume button in your audio device? Maybe windows is detecting volume somehow from that button?

i've figured it out, it's really silly actually. i've got a laptop with 2.1 sound. it's got a subwoofer built into it, so the problem was (it still is actually) that when i lower the volume, the volume from the speakers decreases but the subwoofer still plays at maximum volume, so it seems like the volume isn't being lowered when it actually is. the problem now is, how do i make the subwoofer lower it's volume along with the other speakers?

Well atleast my speakers have volume control AND Bass control.
Also you could try audio control panel of your soundcard.

Driver problems common with the 8.1 upgrade, so best re-install your Sound Drivers...

i've been looking into the problem and is seems as it's a software problem common to all the ASUS G75, as mine. I can adjust the bass volume separatedly, but it just would be nice to control everything with the computer's hotkeys. Anyway, does anyone know a solution for this problem for this pc in particular? because i've been looking in ASUS's forums and couldn't find anythind. and if noody does, thanks anyway for the replys

If you mwan the speaker built-in volume control, then no. But if you mean Windows one then you could bind it somehow. Atleast some gaming mouses have drivers that can bind most of the buttons. Also some keyboards have "Media control" like pause, play, volume up and down, etc...

Good advice. I had a problem after updating to Win8.1, volume control pretty much ineffective. I just requested a driver update, which Windows found and installed. Thanks. Jo.
