crossfire 280x's or Buy a single 290/290x?

Heres a couple pros and cons I can some up with (to weedle out the myths). I have the processing power and PSU for both.

2x 280x's: Almost 90% more performance with a second card. No more 50% extra power with Xfire
A bit more $$$, but 280x vs 290x, 290x is only 30% faster than a single 280x. Another 280x is almost 90% faster than a single 280x. This is a trusted graph (7970ghz crossfire is almost equivalent to 280x CF)

Check the other benchmarks, see how the 7970ghz crossfire (almost equivalent to 280x CF) compares to the 290x

Are Crossfire troubles over exaggerated? It's 2013, and MANY seem to have no trouble with it, even Micro stutter is just about gone. I could sit on an extra 40fps for the same exact price. 3gb could outdate soon, and only 312bit bus is a limiting factor since I want these to last 4-5 years at least. Why do they say single GPU is better when it comes to performance? Are the issues still that bad?

290x: It's newer. 512bit bus, 4gb Vram, dedicated audio processor, Future proof, but at what performance cost? Is it really worth twice the cost for only a 30% increase in performance? 290x also has trouble cooling stock right now (I'd buy OC custom cooler version). But really, the 280x's would do so much better? would the 280x's last 4-5 more years though? 290x has newer architecture.

I'm not made of money, so please no "just buy 2 290x's". If you had $640, which would you buy and why? P.S. (I want to play ultra at 60fps as long as possible, and transition into 1440p in the coming year(s)

When I say future proof, I mean future proof. I run dual monitors now, one 1600x900p, and the gaming one at 1920x1080p. I plan on buying a 1440p or 1600p or 3 1080p's as soon as they all drop to the consumer norm. I don't want to have to upgrade these graphics cards when that change comes. This is where 4GB Vram/512bit bus would REALLY do me good, as larger size and res can eat dat right up.
I'm now aiming for a single 290 OC'd aftermarket cooled now as I don't see 10% extra performance worth the $100 more for a 290x, especially as both have = architecture design and features. Let me know what You think about the 290vs 290x price/poerformance diff.
I plan on playing on BF4 max in 1440p at ultra 60fps and 1600p high at least now, and don't want to replace these til the end of BF5's game cycle (4 years). I am okay with buying a 290 now and crossfireing in 2 years, as I don't NEED 150fps right now. And in 2 years, I could see if adding a second 290 would be worth it, or sell and buy the next gen. Hmm sorta like that idea, since noone knows how fast the 280x could decay over time, or if crossfire will be messed up by AMD's infamous drivers.
Please let me know any comment or recommendation you have, I'm really getting sick of spending time thinking over this instead of actually playing games with my PC xD.

These are EXTREMELY bottlenecked numbers. I will be running an 8350. slight OC to 4.4ghz, there will be virtually no bottleneck.
check these numbers with a fitting CPU:
http://www.techspot.com/review/727-radeon-r9-290x/page7.html benches on the same games you sent, but the AMD crossfire beats EVERYTHING. Not really sure if the "single card solution" is the way to go in terms of price for me. The reason this is such a dilemma is because the 290x and 2 280x's are the same exact price . . .

I enjoy the 4gb and 512bit bus, I'm assuming thats why you think it fits better, for larger displays. If I got 2 Toxic 280x's for a bit more, I'd have a solid 4-6gb Vram. for $700, It'd be far more worth it than one $600 290x? maybe? Power might be an issue at that point though.

When crossfire works, it can pay out with SIGNIFICANT framerate. I know you are trying to save me future headaches with CF issues, but 60% faster than a single 290x! for not a penny more, that's really really intriguing. Would you pick between 50gps (290x) in 5760x1080 or a solid 90fps (dual 280x)? I can deal with temperatures and beta drivers.

i dont think you understand, fraps measures your 90fps, but half of these frames get dropped/jumbled up/partially displayed/uneven spacing of frames by the time they get to your monitor with crossfire. you see more real-world performance on your monitor from a single card. We dont go only by fraps fps any more, FCAT, frame latency measurements and dropped frame measurements are more important.

the $450 290 is the best bang for your buck in the next gen gpus by far. aftermarket cooled versions overclocked to the 1.3ghz range sail right past stock titan/290x level performance. in about 18 months that card will be around $250 so you can get another one then or see what kind of 4k gen cards are doing and make a decision then.

Can you link where you found this info? I can't find any 290 reviews.

Crossfire is fine for single displays, but still has a lot of issues with Eyefinity setups. I definitely would not want to Crossfire my 7970 if I had a triple-monitor setup.

I would personally get an R9 290X (once manufacturers start releasing some with their coolers), and Crossfire it in the future, but you never know if the Crossfire issues with Eyefinity will be fixed. Hell, look at how long it took for AMD to release drivers to improve Crossfire. You may want to go Nvidia.

Are you serious? Those are benchmarks for AMD's "Dual Graphics" which is when a card is Crossfired with an APU. It has nothing to do with regular Crossfire.

R9 290 isn't quite out yet. It will release October 31st, and Aftermarket Versions/game bundles will start to appear in Mid-Late November. Hate waiting through BF4's release, but it's a much smarter move to wait until we get close to the holiday pricing to reap the new models and bundles. Plus, If you hold out long enough, 290/290x will most likely be Gold titles in the newest never settle promotion, Giving you access to BF4 and more for free!
Links? This is basically the site I trust the most on the internet. He reports GPU news the second he finds it, and even his estimates have been spot on:

http://videocardz.com/47256/amd-radeon-r9-290-performance-revealed (blurred are 290 and 290 OC version)
Insane, the OC'd 290 is just as fast as a standard 290x. This is why I'm holding off and skipping the reference cards. $450, and It blows a $650 780 out of the water. OC'd version even beats the titan, at under half the price. We'll see if it's too good to be true, but this guy's latest findings show it between $399-$449.
