2400 MHz ram Running at 1600 Mhz ?!!

hi i bought asrock z87 extreme 4 and i5 4670k
i have 2x4 2400 cl 11 G skill
in the mobo bios it says that each one is 4000 DDR3 1600 so why it's 1600 not 2400 and as i know that this mobo can take more then 2400 ?!!

It's because of the IMC (Internal Memory Controller), the i5's IMC handles 1333 and 1600 memory speeds. Meaning that you will have to manually set your memory speed to 2400 if that's where you want it.

My i7-950's IMC is at 1066, so I had to manually set my RAM to 1600. Not a big deal, but a pain none the less. Every once in a while(like once every 3 or 4 months) I get a boot error about a failed overclock and end up having to reset the RAM speed (its the only thing OC'd on my system).

Be aware though, making this change, Intel will consider this an overclock and so the warranty provisions on overclocking will kick in.

so it was just useless to get the 2400 !
how can i change it to 2400 ?!
and do u mean by overclocking warranty that i gonna lose my 4670k warranty if i oc the ram !!

In the BIOS, there is a setting for the RAM speed, among other settings, you should be able to make the change there.

As for the warranty, I am not sure exactly what the language is for the "k" processors, as the ability to OC is there intentionally. Personally, I would just make the speed change, seeing as the whole point of getting a "k" model is to overclock.

but why the ram mhz change effect in cpu ?!
i mean i gonna change the mhz for the ram to 2400 so why would i care for cpu ?!
for my mobo i road the guide and i notice it support 1600 and lower but higher then 1600 there is this (OC) next to 1800 2000+ ex: 2400(OC)\
does that mean it only reach them by OC or it can OC the 2400 !

The IMC is built into the CPU, so changing the memory speed directly affects it.

As for the Motherboard, I've always understood it as meaning that you can OC your RAM up to those speeds and the board can handle it but beyond that, the system might become unstable. You should be able to run your memory at the 2400 speed, but the IMC is limiting it and an OC is necessary to get it there.

so does this mean if i bought 1600 it will be 1600 cuz the limit but with my 2400 it will only read 1600 and by going for 2400 it will be oc
and will effect the cpu does this mean iof i oc the cpu i will lose the warranty !

If you had bought 1600, it would run at 1600 without issue. Since you bought 2400, the only way to get it to run at that speed is to OC the setting above the 1600 IMC limit.

You should read your warranty on the CPU to find out what Intel's stance is. Since its a unlocked CPU, odds are OCing is still covered to a point. You could also contact Intel (e-mail or call) to find out what their warranty conditions are regarding this.

i found that there is 2 profile option in OC xmp load
that can set to auto that's why the mobo read it as 1600
and anther option is xmp profile 1.3 2400 that what i chose and now running at 2400 easy
