Does external exhaust make a difference?

Hi, I have a Gtx780 in my Bitfenix Prodigy and so far I haven't had any heat problems. But is the external exhaust helping in heat buildup better than an internal exhaust cause im a bit worried about heat as the new A title games are coming out.

I generally prefer cards that exhausts heat out of the case rather than dump the heat into the case which will increase overall temps.

The only exception is when I bought a passively cooled nVidia 9600 GT for my HTPC because I wanted it to be as quiet as possible. It has not fan, just a massive heatsink.
