So I have all the parts picked out, and have my new system in mind.

But as I've never needed to do this before, I'm not sure if I'll run into any issues.

But I have a 750GB HDD w/ the OS running on it and a 1TB HDD.

Can I just put these HDDs into my new build and just have it work? Do I need to transfer everything, or can I just boot up my computer like normal?

If the motherboard generations are similar enough, you might be able to transplant the drives to the new build and it would simply download new drivers if the NIC driver is among the devices that are similar enough to work.

I wouldn't do that though - it's not fun to have to start from scratch but I would backup your documents and media to an external hard drive and wipe both drives and start with a base image of Windows 7.

That is a definite *maybe*. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. The greater the difference between old and new, the 'maybe' edges over towards 'no'.
I recommend just a clean installation on the new hardware. Yes, it's a bit of a pain.
But guaranteed to work.

When i upgraded from core 2 duo to fx 6300 , my hdd needed a clean installation of os . It may be due to the difference in motherboard and in my case there was a big difference from g41 to 970a- g46.
I cant exactly tell that it will happen in your case or not.

Alright thanks, had some SSDs ready to be bought anyways. Will just put my OS on an SSD and transfer my work stuff and re-install my programs when needed. Thanks guys!
