Hey,
I have few years old Acer AX3400 desktop pc (warranty is already gone) with an interesting problem: DVD-drive seemed to work for a while just fine, but now it has disappeared from the computer (cannot be located in device manager and speccy doesn't find it either). At first when this happened Windows 7 problem fixer managed to resolve it, but after another restart it disappeared again and now nothing seems to work. I already tried to fiddle with the registry as is instructed here (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314060), but nothing worked. I'm 99% sure this issue isn't hardware issue, because the dvd drive didn't have any trouble playing cd's or dvd's when it was showing on the computer. And because of this message in the event viewer:

I found out the exact model is Hitachi-LG HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH60N ATA Device, but i cannot find drivers from googling or from manufacturers site. Nothing for this exact model.

Any ideas?

Eh, i ran the microsoft fix it. I also tried manually, but this only disables or makes it non automatic? Did you understand what i was asking here? It did disable the error message, correct, but that was not what i was looking, i was hoping to "revive" the drive...

The DVD drive worked perfectly with the Home Premium that came with the pc, and it did run with the new install of Professional for short time, until it disappeared.

I actually found this, and tried how is instructed in video / comments, but it is no use because i can't find neither UpperFilters or LowerFilters.
