Buy a GTX 760 or wait for next-gen Nvidia

Hey everyone. So lately I've been wondering, should I buy a GTX 760 to replace my XFX HD 6850 or should I wait for the 800's to come, and for prices to lower (or maybe a 800 series GPU might just a have sweet spot like the 760)?

I definitely want Nvidia for next-gen, I really want a smooth hackintosh experience. Unless, AMD's prices end up blowing Nvidia's out of the water.

I keep thinking that with "next-gen" games coming out (that is, more VRAM usage for textures from what I've seen so far), I'll need a 3GB GPU at least, for good 1080p gaming.

To be honest I haven't played that much lately, but I will play the next-gen games coming out next year.

By the way, there's no chance for me to Crossfire/SLI, I made the mistake of buying a 120€ motherboard that has x16/x4 only (I thought dual-gpu was too much trouble back when I bought it).

I am saving money for something else, but if I sold my current GPU and bought a new one, the difference wouldn't be that huge. Any input would help.

Thanks in advance.

My pick out of those would be the 760 and 7970. The 760 is better than the 7950 and the 7970 is €20 cheaper than the 280x (280x is just a re-branded 7970 with higher clocks).

280x looks tempting damn it. There are a few reports of native compatibility with OS X, due to its similarities with the new FirePros coming out for Macs.

Update. Found a few OEM 7950's on sale. So:

OEM HD 7950 3GB - 210€ lowest
GTX 760 - 220€ lowest
HD 7970's - 280€ lowest
R9-280x - 300€

Which one should I go for?

Got a 770 it is wonderful I dont regret it at all Im also one of those wanna get my hands on the next big thing types, Im pretty sure its gonna stand up for awhile. For the money the 770 is worth the extra, but the 760 is better than any of the ADM cards in that range.

Yeah it has made me proud and I never hear it running had to get up and check a couple times, lol. But the 7950 is about $80.00 more and still cannot justify the performance compared to a 760.

Thanks for the input guys. I think I'm going with a 760 for now. Really can't go wrong with it from what I've seen. Either a used EVGA superclocked, or wait a few days, get a new one and also get a game bundle (AC 4 and Splinter Cell).
