trying to use my android phone as wifi hotspot for laptop it will connect when no password is set but as soon as wpa2 security is set on phone laptop connects but can't surf!!! I am using the correct password I've set on phone for laptop and I don't want to leave it as open for anyone to use!

this same thing happens to me, but i can surf net when connected to phone in open network. What i do is i put the wifi setting to only allowed devices, now the open wifi allows connections to only allowed devices so problem solved.

it's possible that your cell company does not allow you to use a hotspot with your current plan.
look into that as a cause as well. i know some do not allow you to use a hotspot even if your phone is capable of creating one. this is of course for the few who say nothing has worked and they can't get a connection at all.
