CPU Cooler: Rosewill RCX-Z1

The Cooler has a PWM (Controlling the Fan Speed)

I have some questions:

1. Do I have too control the CPU fan manually at all times?
2. Can I keep the CPU PWM on Lowest speed at all times?
3. Can someone explain briefly how the whole PWM thingy works?

Thank You :)

Describing PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) can be tricky, since you kind of have to go in-depth to an extent. The oversimplified way to put it is that your computer pretty much automatically change the RPM of the fan on its own, almost without you ever having to worry about it. And, yes, controlling the RPM is possible through either the motherboard, or a third-party software program like Speedfan.

More in depth, the standard fan will use voltage to control the speed of the fan's motor, thus its RPM. With a PWM fan, it is fed a constant 12V, but the PWM signal runs on a "duty cycle" in which is determines the fans speed in kind of a strange on-off switch method. So, at a 50% duty cycle, the switch is in the "on" position for 50% of the time.

Gotcha. So If my CPU starts overheating, I don't have to worry about manually changing the RPM right?
