Hey guys , rumours say the Maxwell Nvidia series will be released in early 2014. I am wondering if it's worth to wait for them or to buy a r9 280X/290X . the problem is that i don't want a 95 degree card (290X)...
What do you think , what will the prices be approx on the maxwells?

More about : wait gtx 800 series maxwell overheating 290x

We can spend our life waiting on hardware, by the time the 800 series launches maybe we have AMD R9 3xx series around the carner.

That really disturbes me that there is so much new technology all the time , you build the best you can , 1 year later you regret it :/  The heat just pulls me off from the 290x , is there coming any different versions with better cooling?

You won't see nvidia maxwell early next year. So far it is expected that TSMC 20nm node will only be ready at the second half of next year and product based on it in Q3 next year.

The whole thing is to not get mad, and just build a system you thoroughly love and enjoy. New technology will always be around the corner, so you absolutely have to be satisfied with what you've built.

There should not be a long wait until the AMD partners have better cooling solutions, they have had the card for a while.

everything goes so fast, I wish the industry would slow down a bit, because people on low budgets or even like me with pretty decent budgets ($1300) it is still hard to keep up :/

So I don't think its worth investing in a $450+ card, because in a year and a half it isn't going to be that good, but I have heard of the industry slowing down.

Just get a gtx 780 its cheaper and you get three games and $100 off the Nvidea shield (don't need the coupon sell it on eBay) , this is the same hype about the AMD 7000 series cards earlier this year with the "Never Settle Forever" deal that lets you choose between one to three games based on the tier of card you got greatly increasing the value of the deal making people build with AMD cards with a few games to start with right out of the gate. But unfortunately with the "Holiday bundle" from Nvidea, you cant choose what games you want. You can always wait, but if you do then you will never build because the newer hardware is around the corner. The R9 290x runs 90+ Celsius on full load on "Uber" mode, wile AMD claims it is designed to run at this theses temps and it does pretty decently, what about the rest of your hardware or your plastic/metal case where the back of the card is going to be attached? Just a reminder, 100 degrees Celsius BOILS WATER, you can COOK your breakfast on this card, wile water cooling options and custom fan shrouds will drastically reduce the heat it will still run very hot and ultimately shorten the life of your card, designed to run at high temps or not.

P.S. the 780 is about $50 cheaper and comes with Assassins Creed Black Flag, Splinter Cell Blacklist, and Batman Arckam Origins plus a $100 discount coupon for the Nvidea Shield that you can either sell on eBay or give to a friend.

What you gotta do is find the "sweet spot" which is a combination of a few things: current gen optimization ( ex: 780ti, and upgradeability(SLI): find the modified and upgraded chipset(the 780 ti rather than the 780) ( in this case all the tweaks are out of the process and its the optimal evolutionary form of this generation of chip) the 800 series are not going to be optimal for a while, they will be pioneering and therefore will have more faults and problems (such as heat output, fault density, etc). The 780ti is the superior evolutionary form of the 700 series... it will be better than the first round of 800 cards maybe not in the numbers game...it may be beat by a couple dozen units of clock speed sure but in reliability the 780 ti will be far superior to the early 800 series. You will have to wait for the 880 ti or whatever form it takes if you want the superior next gen. are you willing to wait a year or more? Just know that a single 780ti will shred any of the games out (and even titan fall and the witcher 3 when they come out) for the next coupla years. if you are multi displaying or 4k gaming, just get two 780tis. if you can bear to wait for the 800, id advise waiting till they come out and STILL get the 780ti at its bumped down price ;)  then just upgrade to dual 780ti SLI in like 2 years and youre still golden at current 1080p res and even good for 4k if you upgrade to that! Be glad that the tech scene is advancing so fast! thats good for all of us! the game makers are still going to provide for everyone! why would anyone want it to slow down just so they feel like they are not too far behind??? thats like asking the economy to slow down so you dont feel poor xD the solution is....WORK HARDER GET RICHER BUY BETTER RIGS! the faster the tech scene goes the more the rich buy the expensive shit and the faster the price falls for the rest of us :D  Im LOVIN IT!! fight jealousy and greed and be GLAD that theres so much advancement!

Wrong. It's already leaked from several retailers and etailers that Maxwell will indeed be shipped before the end of March 2014.

Maxwell releases in March supposedly. But it won't accommendate the 20 nm node until Q3. Earlier models will still use the 28nm node.

If you didn't buy a GPU yet, I suggest to wait until the R9 290/X NON REFERENCE CARDS come out. These will NOT have the heating issues the reference cards have. These will (hopefully) NOT have the extremely loud fan issues the reference cards. These cards will have a far better, quieter cooling solution, for maybe ~$30-40 more (Please correct me somebody if I'm wrong)

I know that I'm personally waiting to see how the R9 290 non reference cards benchmark, as the reference cards have already impressive results for their price. And they should be out by late december/early january if that isn't too long of a wait.

that is based on the what info we got in october. try looking the date first before replying to a comment. initial expectation was for nvidia to release Maxwell in that time frame using 20nm node. but back then the news were reporting that TSMC 20nm node might only be ready for mass production after second half of 2014. the latest rumor however saying maxwell will indeed coming out around Q1 next year but so far it is not confirmed if it's based on TSMC's 20nm or 28nm node.

Buy 2 gtx 760 and put them in SLI, that will be faster than a GTX 780 Ti.
