I can barely squeeze an i7 into my budget as I'm already overspending but I just want to know will the i7 preform better in SOME games not all? Will it also future proof my system for long? If you have any other info on the 2 CPUs please feel free to say also the rest of my build

GPU: R9 290x
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8gb (2133) 2x4
MOBO: Msi G45 Gaming
STORAGE: WD Caviar Blue 1tb SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 120gb
Thanks in advance :)

Will the i7 perform better in some games? Probably, especially in the future when games start taking advantage of more cores. And because of that yes, it probably will future proof your system better than the i5.

Is it worth the extra money? Based on the information you've given me (that you are already over budget), I would tend to say no, it isn't. But then again I don't really know your financial situation and so take what I say with a grain of salt.

The only thing is an overclocked 4670k would last around 3-4 years? And that's when games are truly optimized for 8 cores so don't you think there would be more competition around and it would've meant I saved money on an i7 that's getting beaten by a cpu that's been introduced when games do use 8 cores if you see what I'm getting at? Lol

A CPU will only last as long as you want it to. If you're completely fine with eventually playing on lower and lower graphics, your computer can last you 10-15 years. By the time games actually utilize 8 cores, there's going to be something a lot faster and a lot more efficient than a i7 from this generation. So go with what is widely viewed as acceptable, and worry about an i7 when games actually start using that many cores.
