Hi,
As the title says, Battlefield 3 lags when on low with Lenovo Y580. Here are the specs:

3rd Generation Intel Core i7-3630QM

Windows 8 64

6GB (DDR3)

NVIDIA GeForce GTX660M 2GB

I got the game in a recent Humble Bundle, and thought I would give it a try. Much to my surprise, I could only play on low and still only get around 20-30 fps with computer plugged in. I have seen videos of people playing with my same laptop on high settings and getting good fps. I have made sure BF3 is running on the GTX660m and not the integrated gfx card, and the Nvidia tray icon says it is using the dedicated gfx. Average temps are 70-90c, 90 being without a cooling pad.
Please help!

BF3 brings many desktop PCs to their knees. Take the videos with a grain of salt. Frames are everything in those games. If you can run BF3 on your laptop, I wouldn't say it is faulty. The problem is the heat. Your CPU will throttle down its clock frequency once a certain thermal threshold is reached and start skipping frames. I have a feeling that your ambient or idle temperature on that laptop is rather high also.

Alright, thanks. So could it be dust, or is my computer just hot? According to Notebookcheck (I hate being that guy whose always like actually...) My temps are kind of average. Also, could you describe "a grain of salt" in this scenario? Thanks again, sorry for being annyoing

EDIT: I just joined an empty server, and I surprisingly was able to play on high with 40 fps. What is going on here?

EDIT 2: Recorded temps: GPU 91-96, CPU 83-86

EDIT 3: Memory clock is supposed to be 4000 mhz, but for me its only 1250 mhz. Is this normal? Sorry, I'm a bit of a pc noob.

You could try to vacuum your laptop vents I suppose to clear any debris/fuzzballs. I don't know that you really have many options that will satisfy BF3 game-play on that laptop. I am unfamiliar with how efficient laptop coolers are and if the money would be worth it.
