So I'm trying to slowly rebuild my computer from an HP Pavilion back when they were decent and used intel. Last week I gave it a new case, power supply, and graphics card. Specs: Intel i7-2600k, 16GB DDR3 RAM (667MHz), a MSI Twin Frozr 3 AMD Radeon HD 7950 OC BE 3GB GDDR5 graphics card, Haf X Case, Coolermaster 1000watt power supply, a crappy HP motherboard (hint the title :/), a 1.5TB Seagate HDD, 120 GB Intel 520 SSD, and a blueray player. So I'm trying to replace all parts but my main issue is this: Should I get a motherboard with LGA 1155 and keep my current processor? Or should I get a new LGA 1150 motherboard AND a new i7-4770k? Also should I seriously look into RAM upgrades? I recently I bought a several hundred dollars worth of parts and I want to know what to get next. I love PC gaming and I want to overclock (with proper cooling.) Don't make fun of any current stats, just please help me with this process of rebuilding. Thanks :)

The 2600K is plenty powerful enough, look at the ASRock Z77 Extreme 4 (my favorite in Z77 - also best selling and best rated), pair it w/ 8GB2x4GB of GSkill 1866/9 Snipers, could take the money you save not buying a new CPU and XFire your 7950, then you'll really have a screaming gamer ;)

Yes,that's what i would do.The 2600K is still a very good cpu.
Look for one of the following two, good ones for a decent price,

another one that will do good but it is more expensive,

Misread the DRAM, though would still kick it up to 1866 or better, can always sell the older, not positive if 16GB is needed, but would be nice, if for gaming 8's plenty, but for other memory intensive apps would go 16, not sure what planned use is

I will keep a couple of different programs open such as some of the Autodesk programs (ex: Maya) and 3D modeling software. I think 8 would be pushing it for me. I just didn't know if 16GB of DDR3 at 1333Mhz is to slow. I think the main bottleneck is the motherboard. I think I might plan to get a new processor. I don't want to be stuck with an older processor and have to later upgrade the motherboard again. Ik the 2600k is great, I'm thinking of when I do upgrade it. So now I think I need a few i7-4770k gaming mobo recommendations. If you really think this is a bad choice, please comment :)

16GB would be better if 3D and Maya, would still suggest a higher freq to get the additional bandwidth and speed - to that end, would suggest the Snipers in 2x8GB 1866 or 2133.......I see no problem with he 2600K, can upgrade to 4670K or even the 3570K, but again the 2600K OCs better than either, and is still a strong CPU, it's better Clock for clock than the 8350

I think I'll keep the i7-2600k and go ahead and get a new motherboard. Still pending a little on the motherboard and I'm looking for under $200 but for gaming. RAM I believe I may soon upgrade also and later get liquid cooling. Please post LGA1155 Motherboard recommendations for gaming and are near or under $200!

IT may actually be that the processor is NOT a "k" series. Would that make overclocking more troublesome? Idk if this is going to change if I do need to get a new processor and motherboard if I want to overclock at will. I hate HP and I really want to overclock so now should I consider a new processor?

Ik, this is why I think I will upgrade my processor to a 4770k. I also am looking to the MSI gaming series for some good over clocking. But if you have other recommendations for a LGA 1150 please feel free to suggest!
