I am building a new computer and pretty much that last part I'm deciding on is the GPU. I was originally going to go with the Nvidia GTX 760 SC but i saw some reviews of the new 280x and it obviously does really well. I am on a budget so I'm wondering is it really worth the extra 55 bucks to go the 280x, or its just paying more to get more? My main use is for HD video editing with some 3d work in there but of course i do spend a lot of time gaming. Thanks!

The R9 280X is of a higher tier than the GTX 760. It's more comparable to a GTX 770, and often tries to go toe-to-toe with the $400 beast (thought doesn't quite make it) moreso than it does the GTX 760 which it outclasses for the most part. the R9 280X is a great deal. I...

I recommend you get that over the GTX 760 as long as you won't have to sacrifice on something crucial like CPU quality in order to do so.

AMD's 280x will destroy GTX 760, it's competing with GTX 770 and is $100 cheaper than GTX 770, yet it still beats it in most games. And there's also AMD's new Mantle project coming out which will allow developers to customize the games to get better performance just like they do with consoles. Imagine a console efficient powerful PC, that thing would be a beast. One of the first games that will be using Mantle is going to be Battlefield 4 so I'd say AMD is the way to go.

It's an interesting battleground, because I'm really keen on seeing Nvidia's G-Sync. Too bad it'll require a new monitor. I just bought my first 1080p monitor over the summer, so I'm not willing to replace that anytime soon, especially not for the price point of $400, though I'm sure they'll release monitors that'll be priced lower. Anyway, G-Sync looks like a dream come true in my eyes, but Mantle looks fantastic as well. It's just an interesting time for PC gaming as a whole, with Steam Machines being released and that great Steam Controller in sight. Oh well, at least I can say that by 9th gen, consoles will truly have started on the decline, though they're already starting to decline now.

R9 280x beating gtx 770 regarding the fps is not true, unless you're taking an overclocked version vs the raw one.
