If buying 2 sticks of ram individually is cheaper, do that instead of getting a dual channel kit as they are identical. Also as it says in your post, if you can find a ~$200 7950, definitely go for one of those instead of a 760 as they are practically the same in performance

How is the ram pointless, 12gbs of 1600, I know 8gb will do the job but who cares.
